Jaiden animations merch12/15/2023 Pidge only really has the goal to find her family. I also realized how the characters barely have any arcs. When they look up at the lions, instead of getting any sense of ending character arcs, I was left with confusion. The lions behave in a way they've never really acted before, and it felt like everything was up for interpretation. End cards were rushed but they tried.įor me, it didn't feel like a proper ending. Wanted more paladin interaction across the board. Alternate universes/timelines were messy and too big a concept to care about. It was clumsy and upset a lot of fans, but honestly I appreciate that they did try to get the representation on screen that they fought very hard for. The after credit end cards were very much confirmed to be something created in a bit of a rush after the producers were given permission to feature a gay wedding. The whole season felt void of those general interactions. What I do wish though, is more time had been spent with the Paladins in general. I have my personal ships, but I never expected them to be cannon so that didn't bother me one way or another. Season 8 lacked a lot of those moments.Ī lot of people had issues with shipping dreams either coming to fruition or not. S7E6 is a great example of how it showed the emotional toll on the paladins. Part of what made the series stand out to me in the beginning was how much the war reflected on everyone involved. I loved seeing Earth's battle and the losses therein- this made the war feel a lot more 'real' and impactful. The backstory could have covered that well enough without any sort of character self-sacrifice to save her. I think keeping Honerva as the villain- focusing on her corruption and downfall then going after her in one reality would have given more time for the examination of the character. While it should have increased the steaks, it ended up minimizing them for me as too much was hanging in the balance. Having Hagar /Honerva as the final boss had the potential to be fantastic, but the ripping into multiple realities made for a very messy plot thread to follow. That said, I felt that a lot of character development/interaction was lost in the last season and there were parts which felt rushed or not completely fleshed out. I also enjoyed the last season (give me giant robots punching each other and I'll be a happy camper- the combo of Voltron and Atlas still remains one of the best robot merges I've seen in a long while). Plus, they had the lions right there to be used instead as a sacrifice so that she couldve gotten to enjoy the fruits of her labor. If TIIC had bothered to drop even a single line about this in season 5 when the White Lion reached out to her, this could have gone a long way in the finale. They never had a backstory or anything planned beyond his death being the catalyst for Keith stepping up into leadershipĪnd putting aside the argument over over why killing off a black (or black coded) version of this character was at best a shortsighted idea, nothing was really foreshadowed about her needing to die. That said, given the infamy for which this fandom is known, one would be remiss to say there isn't a huge number of fans that would've wanted to burn everything to the ground anyway even if the final season wasn't an incoherent mess.įull agree, but it's worth pointing out that the creators stated over and over and over and over again how Shiro was a means to an end and he would have been killed off but for Netflix's interference. I think there can be a lot said about concensus. Or Roseanne, which ended well before bitching and moaning online was easy to do. Otherwise- great series and awesome story. Didn't feel like the writers wanted to, either. But because VLD didn't sell much merch, no one was willing to pony up to continue the IP. There absolutely should have been a sequel series focused solely on the Dairugger XV team. Considering Shirogane lives in this story version, Alura dying isn't problematic to me.įinally, I appreciated the easter eggs for Dairugger XV throughout the last episode, but feel like it was a rude tease knowing that they had zero plans for any additional media once VLD ended. If Adam was that important to Shiro (like Matt/Katie to rach other), then we should have been introduced to him earlier in the series.Īnother criticism (that I don't agree with) is disdain over Alyra's death. Those that have criticisms vary wildly and are inconsistent.įrankly, my sole complaint was the under-used Adam character who was only introduced towards the end of the series as a tragedy to impact Shirogane. People that enjoyed the ending don't flood social media with complaints, so you never see the correct reception ratios.
